GUS is a longitudinal research study that started in 2005 and is following the lives of Scotland's children from infancy through to adolescence. GUS provides new information that will help develop policies and services for young children and their families. Data from the study was recently used to inform the development of the Government's new Early Years Framework. During the third year of the study, interviews took place with 4,200 families with children aged just under 3 years and 2,300 families with children just under 5 years old.
This year our style of reporting has changed. Five reports on the themes below will be published between January and March 2009. The conference will include presentations and workshops on these themes:
- Non-resident parents
- Food, eating and physical activity
- Childcare
- Parenting and the neighbourhood context
- Parenting styles and cognitive development
Speakers will include:
- Adam Ingram, Minister for Children and Early Years
- Paul Bradshaw and Louise Marryat, Scottish Centre for Social Research
